CICLOPS: Cassini Imaging Central Laboratory for OPerationS

Year End Gala

In bringing 2006 to a close, the Cassini Imaging Team is [link {2478}]releasing[/link] its best maps of Titan and the major icy Saturnian moons, and other eye-catching images collected from our travels around Saturn.

Dec 29, 2006: Peeking at Saturn - Cassini peers around the hazy limb of Titan to spy the sunlit south pole of Saturn in the distance beyond.
Dec 29, 2006: Shadowlands - With its dazzling rings, Saturn radiates a beauty and splendor like no other known world.
Dec 29, 2006: Brilliant Ice Dust - Lit by reflected light from Saturn, Enceladus appears to hover above the gleaming rings, its well-defined ice particle jets spraying a continuous hail of tiny ice grains.
Dec 29, 2006: Ice Fountains - Multiple jets of icy particles are blasted into space by the active venting on Enceladus.
Dec 29, 2006: Enceladus Transits Rhea - The bright crescent of Enceladus slides past distant Rhea in this mutual event, or occultation, movie from Cassini.
Dec 29, 2006: Janus-Epimetheus Swing - Cassini watches Janus and Epimetheus in their orbital dance as the F ring slides out of view in a movie sequence from Cassini.
Dec 29, 2006: Multicolor Hyperion - Hyperion appears to tumble toward Cassini in this movie that shows variations in color across the moon’s surface.
Dec 29, 2006: Helene - Cassini came close to the small moon Helene on Feb. 25, 2006, acquiring this high resolution view.
Dec 29, 2006: Pandora Anaglyph - Craters on Pandora exhibit clarity and depth in this anaglyph, or 3D view, from Cassini.
Dec 29, 2006: Dione Anaglyph - Dione floats in the dark sky before Cassini in this anaglyph, or 3D image, taken during an encounter in late 2005.
Dec 29, 2006: Improving the View of Titan - As Cassini continues its reconnoitering passes at Titan, the imaging science team continues to improve their ability to tease out surface details hidden in the raw data.
Dec 29, 2006: Enceladus: Trailing Hemisphere - A variety of surface ages is revealed in this sixteen-image mosaic taken during Cassini’s first close flyby of Enceladus on Feb.
Dec 29, 2006: Fractured World - Numerous blue-green fractures can be seen in this false color mosaic taken during Cassini’s second close flyby of Enceladus on March 9, 2005.
Dec 29, 2006: Exploring Icy Canyons - Fine topographic detail and color variations are revealed in this 11-image, false color mosaic taken during Cassini’s second close flyby of Enceladus on March 9, 2005.
Dec 29, 2006: The Enceladus Atlas - Presented here are cartographic map sheets from a high-resolution Enceladus atlas, a project of the Cassini Imaging Team.
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Tethys – December 2006 - This global digital map of Tethys was created using data taken by the Cassini spacecraft, with gaps in coverage filled in by Voyager spacecraft data.
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Mimas – December 2006 - This global digital map of Mimas was created using data taken by the Cassini spacecraft, with gaps in coverage filled in by Voyager spacecraft data.
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Titan – December 2006 - This global digital map of Titan was created using data taken by the Cassini spacecraft Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS).
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Rhea – December 2006 - This global digital map of Rhea was created using data taken during Cassini and Voyager spacecraft flybys.
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Enceladus – December 2006 - This global digital map of Enceladus was created using data taken by the Cassini spacecraft, with gaps in coverage filled in by Voyager spacecraft data.
Dec 29, 2006: Map of Dione – December 2006 - This global digital map of Dione was created using data taken by the Cassini spacecraft, with gaps in coverage filled in by Voyager spacecraft data.
